Cutting-Edge technology best describes MBH ARCHITECTURE’s phased renovation and 3,000 SF expansion to the Hartford Hospital Psychiatric Unit in the Emergency Department features 15 private rooms, 8 “patient bay” stations and support spaces for nursing staff. Patient spaces were given a less institutional feel by using wood-look panels with tamper proof accent lighting which is a consistent theme throughout facility. Each private room features tamper proof and anti-ligature devices and finishes, in-wall televisions, and adjustable color therapy lighting. The ability to provide Chromo Therapy allows staff to offer another level of comfort and care to patients by catering treatment (color selection) to the emotional, mental and spiritual needs of patients. Visibility to private rooms was of primary concern, and so in addition of a large window in the patient doors, the corridor wall of the private rooms was a window wall fitted with electronically activated privacy glass.
